2017 Public Improvements

2017 Exhibit – Public Improvements

This exhibit began with an inquiry from our local police department. Several years ago the Museum presented an exhibit about the Carlisle Fire Department, so why not one on the police? Unfortunately, our collections contain only a few early photographs of the police department. We needed “stuff” to make an interesting exhibit. Thanks to Chief Ken Brown for having the foresight to save some items relating to the early days of the Milford Police Department. But this still wasn’t enough to fill up the space. By expanding the focus to Public Improvements, the Museum was able to display some unique objects. Did you know that early water pipes were made of wood? We have one salvaged from Washington Street. Did you know that Walnut Street was once covered by logs? We have one! We also have an early compass and surveying tools that helped to lay out our town of Milford.
