Internship Opportunities

The Milford Museum offers multiple internship opportunities both paid and unpaid. We work with college students of all levels, from undergraduate to graduate. If interested in an internship with the Milford Museum, please email tom@milforddemuseum.org for more information.

Museum Administration Intern

The intern will work with the Museum Operations Manager and various volunteers on site at the Milford Museum to help facilitate office functions associated with museum administration and management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assisting the Museum Operations Manager with events planning, coordination, and implementation
Assist in developing marketing strategies via social media, print, and digital to assist with the Milford Museum’s advertising needs
Use the Network for Good system to help manage museum members, donors, and other contacts
Provide support for various museum events throughout the duration of the internship
Assist with updating content on Milford Museum website to assure up-to-date information is presented to the public

Qualifications:

Enrolled in an undergraduate program pursuing a career in museum studies or administration and seeking to gain experience in a small museum
Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs
Previous museum experience desirable, but not required
Proven attention to detail
Ability to work with Microsoft Word, Excel, and database programs (training in use of the Museum’s database system will be provided)
Ability to perform tasks in professional manner and with discretion when working with confidential records
Ability to commit 1-3 days per week from June August, with a total of 135 hours for the summer

Collections Intern

The interns will work as a team INVENTORYING AND CATALOGING the Milford Museum collections. The collections are housed within the Milford Museum in Milford, Delaware, and all work by interns will need to be done on site.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assisting conservators with written and photographic documentation
Creating a full digital inventory, including photos and accession numbers, of the collections in the online system used by the Milford Museum
Assisting conservators with written and photographic documentation
Assist with the building and organization of collection files, provenance research, and the organization of collection image files Museum website to assure up-to-date information is presented to the public
Assisting collections staff with upkeep and care of the collections as needed
Undertaking research necessary to support conservation treatments
Preparing documentation for exhibitions/loans
Assisting with other conservation-related duties as appropriate

Cleaning and moving artifacts to research and writing for the catalog. Interns will report to the Museum Operations Manager

The Milford Museum has a small staff so interns will be exposed to many different aspects of work within a small museum. They may also be called on occasionally to help with larger institution wide projects and events if needed.
