2016 Frozen Exhibit
Frozen - 2016 Exhibit
Did you ever wonder how early Milfordians kept their food cold? Our exhibit FROZEN: Or How We Kept Our Cool tells the story of how local lakes were used for ice supply and recreation. The Milford Ice & Coal Company provided Milfordians with ice for many years. During the late nineteenth century, local children followed the horse drawn wagon begginf for chips of ice as it was delivered to local homes. Newspapers gave notice when ice was being harvested from the lakes. Ice skating was a popular winter pastime. Unfortunately, today's youth don't remember this fun winter sport since the last time Silver Lake froze hard enough to skate on was in 1994! The exhibit also includes a collection of ice and ice cream related scoops and tools.
