Toys from the Twenties
TOY COLLECTION OF JOHN MALARKEY
Many times Museum exhibits evoke a memory in the viewer. Do you remember the items you are seeing here or maybe something similar? How do today's toys compare to yesterdays?
This new exhibit shares toys that were played with in Milford by Jack Malarkey in the 1920's. John (always known as Jack) was born in Milford in 1928. He was an honor student who graduated from MHS in 1945 and soon after joined the Army. After WWII, Jack returned to Milford and married Betty Jean Givens of Georgetown.
Jack was state finance secretary and bank commissioner under three governors. Remembered as a friendly bear of a man, he helped guide Delaware through its emergence as a national financial center. Jack died in 1988 while attending a Conference of State Bank Supervisors in Key West, Florida.
