Our Collections

What makes the museuems exciting and interesting? What makes the Milford Museum so interesting and important? Our Collections...the objects that we actively collect to document and represent the cultural history of Milford's diverse community.

Our collections are currently being cataloged into a data management program called PastPerfect. They are divided into the four categories of objects, photographs, archives and library. With hundreds of objects in each category, the permanent collection grows every day. Each object, image, piece of artwork, book or document has an interesting and unique story to tell. It is important to us to continue to grow, care for, and display our Collections for the education and opportuniities that they offer to our community for today and tomorrow.

In 2010, the Museum received several grants from the Delaware Humanities Forum.  One was to prepare an exhibit on local shipbuilding, and create a dvd entitled "Wood Shavings to Hot Sparks":  The History of Shipbuilding in Milford, Delaware. Another grant was to digitize all of the photographs and postcards in the collection.  At the present time we have over 2,200 scanned images.  This enable us to quickly search the database and locate local people and places for researchers.

Please remember the Milford Museum when you start your annual house cleaning. We actively seek items relating to Milford and the surrounding communities so that they can be preserved and exhibited for future generations.
